In Madagascar, new initiatives are transforming plastic waste management while supporting local innovation. The entrepreneur is launching projects that combine entrepreneurship with innovative technologies to address both environmental and social challenges.
Sarobidy Nombantsitoha, a Malagasy entrepreneur, has been recognized for his plastic waste recycling startup, Plastikôo Madagascar, securing third prize at the POESAM 2025 (Orange Social Venture Prize).
Founded in 2024, Plastikôo Madagascar collects plastic waste and transforms it into reusable materials for constructing low-environmental-impact infrastructure. The company combines recycling operations with public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing plastic pollution.
To achieve its goals, the company deploys automated collection machines in high-traffic areas. These devices dispense rewards to users for each bottle deposited, providing an incentive for recycling. Mobile machines have also been developed to facilitate collection in remote areas.
An accompanying mobile application allows users to track their contributions, manage rewards, and interact with the community. It also provides educational content on ecological practices and measures user efforts toward a sustainable environment.
Prior to the POESAM award, Plastikôo Madagascar won first prize at the Orange Summer Challenge in February 2025, an international competition focused on responsible entrepreneurship in Africa and the Middle East.
Nombantsitoha is also the Creative Director of Tsitoo Studios Madagascar, a creative agency he founded in 2020. The firm specializes in graphic design, visual identity, digital communication, architectural visualization, 2D/3D animation, and audiovisual production.
Nombantsitoha holds a professional license in 3D graphics and cinematography, earned in 2017 from the École supérieure de multimédia d’Ampandrana Antananarivo. Before launching his ventures, he worked as a graphic designer and videographer for ENDISMAD (an import and distribution company) in 2020, and later as a graphic and web designer for C-Koya Tech in 2021.
