Nigerian startup Fixr Technologieshas developed a digital platform designed to connect households and businesses with qualified technicians for repair and maintenance services. The company launched the platform, called Usefixr, in Lagos in 2023. Founders Dom Marmont, Edmund Glover, Hugh Hudlestonand Nick Stonecreated the startup to simplify access to technical services that often remain difficult to organize in many African cities.
The platform reflects a broader trend toward the digitalization of home and equipment maintenance services across emerging markets. Usefixr operates as a mobile application available on iOS and Android. The app has already recorded more than 500 downloads on the Google Play Store, according to platform data.
Users can request a wide range of technical services through the application, including plumbing, electrical work, equipment maintenance and appliance installation. The platform aims to simplify access to these services while improving reliability in a sector that often remains dominated by informal arrangements.
Users submit service requests directly through the application. They select the type of service required and choose an available time slot for the intervention. The platform then notifies available technicians, who can accept and carry out the assignment. This model draws inspiration from on-demand service marketplaces, which aim to introduce greater transparency and speed into service delivery.
Usefixr also integrates several tools designed to improve the user experience. Among them, the company introduced a feature called “Scan-to-Fix,”which allows users to identify an appliance that requires repair by scanning a code or device. This function simplifies technical diagnosis and helps technicians prepare for interventions. The application also includes a real-time request tracking system, allowing users to monitor the progress of their service request.
In addition to household services, the platform provides tools for businesses. Companies can use the application to manage maintenance requests for equipment and infrastructure through a single digital interface. This approach allows firms to centralize maintenance management while improving operational efficiency.
